Improving Personal Hygiene in Underserved Montgomery County

Updated: Mar 9, 2025

In Montgomery County, we are making significant strides to enhance personal hygiene and health for underserved residents. During our most recent event in Landover, Maryland, we partnered with the Immigrant and Refugee Outreach Center to empower and uplift the underserved refugee community.

Access to basic hygiene items and healthcare supplies is crucial for maintaining good health and preventing illness, yet many underserved communities lack the resources to obtain these essentials. For these communities, having access to necessities like clean clothing can significantly impact their well-being, fostering a sense of confidence and normalcy. By providing 20 children with new, clean clothes, we were able to address an immediate need and restore their dignity. Additionally, by cleaning and painting their fingernails, we gave them more than just physical care—we offered a moment of joy and self-expression, often overlooked when basic needs take priority.

This initiative further reinforced our broader commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of background or circumstances, has the resources necessary to maintain their health, dignity, and well-being. We went beyond providing material goods by offering water and snacks to ensure the children stayed hydrated and energized throughout the day, reflecting our understanding of the importance of holistic care. At we believe true empowerment comes from meeting both immediate and long-term needs, which is why we see our work as not only about providing resources but also creating an environment where individuals feel seen, valued, and supported.

Through this collaboration, we also demonstrated our core belief in the power of community-driven initiatives. When organizations and community members come together, we can bridge gaps in healthcare access and offer resources that contribute to a more equitable environment for all. This event highlights how, through partnerships and collective action, we can address disparities in underserved neighborhoods. Ultimately, this event in Landover is just one step toward our larger goal of making Montgomery County a place where everyone has the tools they need to live healthy, dignified lives. We are proud of this work and remain committed to supporting and uplifting the communities that need it most.
